How to make an equal pay claim

You will usually need to lodge a grievance with your employer before proceeding to an Employment Tribunal. After submitting your grievance you must give your employer 28 days to respond before claiming at tribunal.

How to make an equal pay claim

Fill in an ET1 form (Employment Tribunal Application Form).
Send the completed form to the Employment Tribunal nearest to your employer.
Pay Justice and our legal partners at Leigh Day & Co can help you to fill this in.

Employment Tribunals

Employment Tribunals are governed by a panel. The panel usually includes a lawyer, who acts as Chairperson, a representative from your employer and a representative from a trade union or another employee body.

At any point during the case your employer can offer you a settlement. You should always consult with your legal representation before responding to such an offer. It is important to consider what you think is fair.

Settlements

Settlements may include:

Compensation for being underpaid in the past.
Future equality of pay.
An apology.
Your employer adopting equal pay policies in the future.

With any settlement you will be asked to sign an agreement so that you will not make any further claims against your employer.
